Phillies Squeek Out Win

The Philadelphia Phillies were able to battle back and beat the Arizona
Diamondbacks 5-4 at Chase Field tonight. Many people have ripped Pedro
Feliz but the fact is he was signed to be a number 7 hitter that played
stellar defense. Yes he will strike out, yes he will leave runners on
base. But he is a number 7 hitter. Tonight he made the Philadelphia
faithful happy by belting a two run homerun that got the team back in
the game and Eric Bruntlett and Chase Utley made the difference as the
Phillies beat the best team in the National League and guaranteed a
split with them.

The Phillies were only able to get 7 hits but they made them count.
Kyle Kendrick struggled but gave up only 3 runs in 6 innings. Ryan
Madson did not look great again but J.C. Romero, Tom Gordon, and Brad
Lidge were able to help the Phillies win their 20th game of the year
and keep them in a virtual tie with the Florida Marlins for first place.

Tomorrow may be the toughest game of the series as the Phillies will
face Brandon Webb but this determined team does not seem to fear any
pitcher. 3 out of 4 would be beautiful. Lets go Phillies!

Eaton Struggles, Phils Can’t Catch D-Backs

The Adam Eaton of last season reemerged in the desert last night as the
Philadelphia Phillies were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4.
The Phillies had a 2-1 lead when Eaton unraveled in the fourth inning
giving up 5 runs. His control was not there as he even walked Randy

After starting the season with a 4.12 ERA in his first three starts,
Eaton has a 7.23 ERA in his past four. How long will Charlie Manual
stick with Eaton if this continues? That probably depends on the
progress of Kris Benson. Benson is still on target to be ready for mid
June so it looks like Phillies fans may be riding the Adam Eaton train
for at least 3 or 4 more starts. The key for Manual will be to pull
Eaton early before the Phillies get so far behind that they can not
catch up. It will tax the bullpen, but at least give the Phillies a
chance to win.

The Phillies made a come back in the ninth but after Carlos Ruiz and
Shane Victorino got hits, Eric Bruntlett popped out to end the game
leaving Phillies fans eager for the return of J-Roll.

Rollins played in another rehab game yesterday going 2-4 with a
homerun, single and two walks and will play at least another one for
class A Clearwater before returning to the Phils which now may be for
the Giants series. It is only a matter of days now!

On a side note, Randy Johnson’s win last night tied him with Robin Roberts on the All time win list with 286.

Phillies Offense Breaks Loose in the Desert

The Phillies played the first of a crucial four game series against the
National League best Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at Chase Field in
Arizona. The Phillies offense finally exploded for runs while Jamie
Moyer pitched 7 strong innings giving up only 2 runs on 6 hits striking
out 5 and walking none in the Phillies 11-4 victory. Clay Condrey
struggled again and showed why he does not belong on a major league
roster. There is no way Steve Kline would be any worse. CUT HIM NOW!

Phillies had 17 hits and Shane Victorino, Geoff Jenkins, Pedro Feliz,
and Carlos Ruiz all looked better at the plate after slow starts and
had multiple hit nights. Jenkins and Ruiz had three hits a piece.

This was the type of game this team needed especially against the
best team in the league to start a four game set. Hopefully the
Phillies pitching will continue to impress and the offense will now hit
to their ability. When it happens, this team will be unstoppable!

More good news came from Los Angeles  as the Dodgers beat the Mets
putting the Phillies a game and a half ahead of their bitter rivals.
The Marlins are now in second place 1/2 game out.
