National League Predictions

Please note that Phightin’ Phils Phorum has a new home. Please bookmark it!

Here is Phightin’ Phils Phorums National League predictions for the
2008 season. I may eat my words come September but it is all part of
the fun.

NL East Winners: Philadelphia Phillies
NL Central Winners: Chicago Cubs
NL West Winners: Arizona Diamondbacks
NL Wild Card Winners: Atlanta Braves

NL Cy Young: Jake Peavy
NL MVP: Albert Puhols
NL Batting Title: Chase Utley

World Series Winner: Detroit Tigers

The predictions are in print so there is no going back now. Be sure to remind me how I did later in the season!

Kendrick Solid In Exhibition

Please note that Phightin’ Phils Phorum has a new home. Please bookmark it!

Coca Cola Field in Lehigh Valley is beautiful. Phightin’ Phils
Phorum
will have to take a field trip there for some pictures as the
ballpark looks like a great venue to watch a game.

The Phillies won 5-3 but let us hope they can beat their Triple A
team or Charlie Manual may have flip flopped the roster. Kyle Kendrick
looked good and although the start was against minor leaguers his
pitches looked crisp and his location looked good. Hopefully his head
will be in the right place when he faces the Jason_werth
Reds on Friday.

Who didn’t look good was Jayson Werth who just was not making good
contact with the ball. He has not looked good all Spring and if he does
not put it together soon, Geoff Jenkins may be platooning with So
Taguchi. That would not be the end of the world except Werth will also
need to contribute off the bench.

Well that is it for Spring Training. Phightin’ Phils Phorum is
excited to bring you coverage of the 2008 season. Be sure to visit our
site daily as it will keep you up to date on all things Phillies. Also
be sure to subscribe to our podcast and check out our Turnpike Series about the Phillies and Mets Rivalry.

Happy Opening Day!!!

Opening Series Match Ups

The good news for the Phillies is that they face the Washington
Nationals in the opening series this year. The Nationals are a scrappy
team that can not be taken lightly, but at least Brett Myers.jpgon paper, the Phillies
have the advantage. The pitching match ups are as follows:

Monday:
Brett Myers (5-7 4.33 ERA) vs Matt Chico (7-9 4.63 ERA)

Wednesday:
Cole Hamels (15-5 3.39 ERA) vs Tim Redding (3-6 3.64 ERA)

Thursday:
Jamie Moyer (14-12 5.01 ERA) vs Jason Bergmann (6-6 4.45 ERA)

The projected line up for Monday’s game against the Southpaw Chico is:

1. Jimmy Rollins SS
2. Shane Victorino CF
3. Chase Utley 2B
4. Ryan Howard 1B
5. Pat Burrell LF
6. Pedro Feliz 3B
7. Jayson Werth RF
8. Carlos Ruiz C
9. Brett Myers P

Fans may have to wait a day to see newly acquired outfielder Geoff
Jenkins as Matt Chico is left handed. He could come off the bench but
will probably not start. Less than 36 hours to game time!

Phillies Lose Both On Deck Games

The Phillies lost both games of the on deck series and walk into the season with no momentum for a third year in a row. Cole Hamels had a so so performance Friday night as the offense was no where to be found.

Today Jamie Moyer was less then stellar and although Pat Burrell hit a big three run
Jimmy Rollins.jpghomerun, the Phillies only managed 6 hits. Moyer ended his Spring 2-2 with a 4.37 ERA and looks ready to have another typical Moyer season.

Jimmy Rollins does not share the concerns about the slow Spring and his .188 performance. He said, “I don’t really look at Spring Training numbers, they don’t mean
anything. My job this spring was to get the job done. I
use Spring Training as a time to find my hands and find myself in the
box. I use it to get a good swing on the ball. It’s, in a way, like
preseason football. You can see a guy like a Peyton Manning, and he’s
in there for maybe 10 plays and they pull him. You won’t see someone
like him concerning himself with a few incompletions.

“It’s the way I look at the spring. I can’t look too much into the
spring numbers. I use it as a time to work on things. Plus, I don’t
want to give too much away. You can have a pitcher who doesn’t know
what you like, where you like the ball, and you don’t want to show them
too much yourself. The season begins March 31.”

Let’s hope the Phillies can turn the switch because come Monday the games count. MyTeamRivals.com‘s Phightin’ Phils Phorum will be at opening day and provide all the inside scoop as well as pictures. Be sure to check it out!
